Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

My office is located within Allegheny Center Alliance Church in the Northside of Pittsburgh. Many of my clients chose to work with me via virtual counseling.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I am currently in network with UPMC, Highmark, BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna. I am also willing to bill for out of network benefits if you have that option with your health insurance carrier. If you desire to use your health insurance to cover the costs of counseling, I will help identify what, if any, shared costs are your responsibility.

You don't take my insurance. What are your fees? Do you offer a sliding scale?

Because of a collaboration with the Christian Counselors Collaborative I am able to offer a sliding scale for reduced counseling for those who qualify (this is based on household income and number of dependents) Please call Carol Landfried, intake coordinator at CCC, at 855.222.2575 to discuss this further.

What should I expect from counseling?

Counseling is a truly unique experience and should be guided mostly by the client's desire to address troublesome areas in his or her life. A client will typically come to counseling to address emotional and behavioral concerns that have caused stress, frustration, and problems in relationships. Goal setting and checking in on progress of those goals is common. Every person is different and reaches their goals and satisfaction point at different times. Some people come to counseling for short term problem solving skills and others for longer term deep rooted issues. Therapy is a process, not a product.

Do you only provide "Christian Counseling"?

I have been trained and licensed as a Professional Counselor with the state of Pennsylvania; part of the education I received was in Integrative Psychotherapy. This training has enabled me to integrate truth from scripture with scientifically based treatment methods from the psychological world. This is helpful for potential clients looking for a counselor who can incorporate Christian faith into the counseling process.

While this Integrative therapy model is something I offer as a professional counselor,  I also work with clients who may not be looking for this particular type of treatment. As a respectful professional counselor, I will use my training and qualifications to address concerns within the scope of my expertise. I will always work with people who are seeking to overcome life's struggles with love and compassion for their situation.
